Abstract

This purpose of this study is to investigate the efficiency of the National Football League Draft and to determine if any player characteristics share a significant relationship with a player’s career earnings. The study includes draft data from 2005 to 2010 and is modeled by using independent variables of overall draft pick position, a position dummy variable, and a conference dummy variable to predict the dependent variable that represents the mean career earnings for a given draft year. After specifying the logistical regression model to include the appropriate variables, the results showed a relationship between overall draft pick position and the probability of earning above or below mean career earnings averaged by draft year. This study presents an opportunity to analyze the significance of the NFL Draft and provides avenues for further research on the subject.
